It’s 2097, It has been decades since the New World Order has been governing the world, no differences exist, everyone is unanimous, all the races have amalgamated, all differences annihilated and most of all, the earth reaps of harm caused by overpopulation. The rivers have dried, the ocean levels have decreased, the Antarctic is populated with millions of people, people are managing under -20 degrees just fine.

It has been 28 years now that the population control amendment was passed. The amendment says “Every person on their 40th birthday is to be euthanized”. After much reluctance from the general public, the people now understand the purpose of all this.

To a much surprise, the world happiness report boasts of all-time record high (99% happiness across the world). People have come to terms with their lives, knowing how it will turn out, how much time they have.

Alrick is celebrating his 40th birthday today, Yes, the funerals have become celebratory events. The sadistic nature of funerals is non-existent, people focus on the fullness of their lives. People are no longer filled with regrets.

Its 11 PM, Alrick’s friends, and family have gathered in a small hut in a distant farmland, everyone shares their best spent moments with the quadragenarian as he listens on as the RFID chip in his neck turns purple, starting the countdown until 12:00 AM, people pick up their breath, teardrops running through their eyes but with wide smiles.

As they wait on for the much-lived life coming to an end.
